    All flash, no taste. Great music reduced to a circus trick. Nearly all the enthusiastic comments are about nothing more than the speed at which he's playing - that's NOT the point of playing music - with defensive assertions that quality is not compromised - it is. A high speed mess is still a mess. The dollops of mud thrown at it by his pedal work are particularly ugly. I'm reminded of Samuel Johnson's remark - " 'Difficult' do you call it sir? I wish it was impossible."

    The video is speed up... Just play it at 0.75 and you will realize. It is already incredibly impressive at the real speed, there is no need to fake this performance to create an illusion of an unachievable standard that only virtuosos can reach...

    I first thought it was speeding up. But listen to the 1976 version of Moscow on RUclips. He only slows the tempo a little in some sections, but he finishes it in about a minute and a half, maintaining a similar tempo overall. This is an old tape, so the movement is unnatural, but perhaps his playing speed is not manipulated.

    You can see from his elbow dropping movement acceleration compared to the gravity acceleration force that this video was sped up and other clues. His real speed can be heard in the 1989 TV recording about 20% slower. This is what happens when cheating is done for a pianist that is already very good.

    • @ShredST

    Analog recordings of this era were notoriously inaccurate. I am not saying this out of envy, but I don’t believe this is the true speed at which he played it.

    • @maxlovesvivan
      @maxlovesvivan Год назад

      However, the note is perfectly in tone. That means the A is still somewhere near 440Hz, and there's no autotune in analog world. That means the speed is correct despite the poor quality.
